The facade of La Scala Paris features a distinct, glowing marquee that sets the building apart from the surrounding Haussmannian stonework. This theater began in eighteen seventy-four as a café-concert, a rowdy venue where audiences drank and heckled performers. When the current owners took over, they spent years excavating deep into the bedrock to create a subterranean performance space. They found the theater filled with debris and sealed it off until they rebuilt the entire interior into a modern, modular stage.
