The Passerelle Arletty is a slender steel footbridge crossing the Canal Saint-Martin with a single, sweeping arch that connects the Rue des Récollets to the Square des Récollets. It honors Arletty, the French actress famous for her role in the film Children of Paradise. She lived nearby on the Rue de la Grange aux Belles. During the German occupation, she famously responded to a Luftwaffe officer who complimented her blue eyes by saying that they were French, a defiant remark that cost her dearly.
