May-Picqueray Garden

The May-Picqueray Garden is defined by a metal trellis archway covered in climbing roses and wisteria. It occupies a plot once held by a busy factory before the city demolished the buildings in the late twentieth century to open the space to the neighborhood. The garden honors May Picqueray, a labor activist who famously mailed a bomb to the American embassy in nineteen twenty-one to protest the execution of Sacco and Vanzetti. She spent her life challenging authority until her death in nineteen eighty-three.
