The Hôtel de Sully features a facade covered in elaborate stone carvings of the four seasons and the four elements. Maximilien de Béthune, the Duke of Sully and former minister to King Henry the Fourth, bought this private mansion in sixteen thirty-four. He spent his final years here, cataloging his memoirs and consolidating the wealth he earned while managing the French crown. The carved figures still frame the doorways, showing the fruits of the harvest and the tools of the hunt he favored.
