Fontaine du Parc

monument

The park you are entering, Parc Monceau, holds a secret beneath its elegant surface. While you walk through these gates, look for the tall, oval-shaped basin known as the Naumachie. It is bordered by a grand Corinthian colonnade that looks like it belongs in an ancient Roman ruin. In reality, these stones were salvaged from the rotunda of the Valois, a royal tomb that was commissioned by Catherine de Medici in the sixteenth century but never actually finished.
