Jacques Tubeuf, a wealthy financier, commissioned this residence in the sixteen thirties to display his immense fortune. The building later housed the royal library for decades. During the French Revolution, the site became a gambling den where fortunes vanished overnight, leaving the grand parlors filled with the sound of desperate, high-stakes card games.
