The Salle Favart features a heavy, stone facade punctuated by rows of arched windows and topped with a roofline of statues representing the performing arts. This building serves as the home of the Opera Comique, a company founded in seventeen fourteen to perform lighter musical dramas. In eighteen eighty-seven, a fire broke out during a performance of Mignon, destroying the previous structure. The current building rose from those ashes, housing a grand auditorium designed specifically for the clarity of spoken dialogue and song.
