Pont Saint-Louis

The Pont Saint-Louis wears a distinct, bright yellow coat of paint that marks it clearly against the stone of the surrounding bridges. This is the narrow footbridge connecting the Île de la Cité to the Île Saint-Louis. In the nineteen sixties, a steel bridge replaced the original wooden crossing that collapsed during a flood. During the seventies, mime artists and street performers claimed the span as their own stage, turning a simple path for pedestrians into a permanent, open-air theater for the city.
