The Hotel Guimard has a facade of wave-like stone and ironwork that defies the straight lines of the surrounding street. Hector Guimard designed this house for himself and his wife in nineteen oh nine, pushing his signature Art Nouveau style toward an extreme, functional minimalism. He treated the building as a total work of art, shaping everything from the door handles to the bedroom furniture to match the organic, curving rhythm of the exterior walls. It remains his most singular architectural statement.
