Medici column

The Medici column stands as a silent sentinel in the heart of Paris, serving as the sole survivor of a grand royal palace that once occupied this site. Commissioned in fifteen seventy-four by Queen Catherine de Médicis, the thirty-one-meter-tall Doric pillar was originally part of her private residence, the Hotel de la Reine. While the palace vanished centuries ago, this stone structure remained, preserved by its unusual design and its mysterious association with the Queen.
