You are arriving at the Musee de l Ordre de la Liberation, a place defined by an honor that no longer exists. General Charles de Gaulle created the Order of Liberation in nineteen forty to recognize those who demonstrated exceptional bravery in the fight to free France from occupation during the Second World War. It is the second highest honor in the French nation, ranking only after the Legion of Honor. What makes this order truly unique is that it became an extinct body upon the death of its final member, as no new companions can ever be named to the order.
