Bourse de commerce (Paris)

The Bourse de Commerce is a circular building topped by a massive iron and glass dome that dominates the skyline near Les Halles. Originally built as a grain exchange in the seventeen sixties, its stone rotunda preserves a single fluted column from a sixteenth-century palace that once stood on this ground. Queen Catherine de Medici used that pillar for celestial observations. Today, the structure houses the Pinault Collection, displaying contemporary art beneath the dome where merchants once traded wheat and flour.
