Medici column

The Medici column stands as a solitary, fluted stone pillar reaching toward the sky, detached from any building. Catherine de Medici commissioned this structure in fifteen seventy-two as part of a grand residence, the Hotel de la Reine. She utilized the platform at the top for astrological observations. When the rest of her palace was demolished to make way for the central market, the city spared this single column. It remains an orphaned relic of a queen's private search for hidden signs.
