Plaque à la Mémoire de Malik Oussekine

A small plaque marks the wall near where the Rue Monsieur le Prince meets the Rue Racine. It carries the name of Malik Oussekine, a twenty-two-year-old student who died here in December nineteen eighty-six. During a night of protests against university reforms, police officers cornered him in the entrance of this building. He had no part in the demonstrations. His death triggered massive student strikes across France, eventually forcing the government to withdraw the proposed education bill.
