Café de la Paix

The Cafe de la Paix opened its doors in June eighteen sixty-two as part of a grand vision to modernize the French capital. Baron Georges-Eugene Haussmann commissioned the building during his massive urban renewal project to create a world-class space for international visitors. It was designed by the architect Alfred Armand to serve as the ground-floor restaurant for the adjacent Grand Hotel. Empress Eugenie inaugurated the establishment on a spring day, cementing its role as a cornerstone of the newly transformed theater district.
