The Pinacothèque de Paris occupied this prominent spot on the Place de la Madeleine as a bold experiment in the world of private art institutions. Founded in two thousand seven by art historian Marc Restellini, it sought to upend traditional museum conventions by eschewing strict chronological or academic classifications. Instead of separating art by era or school, the galleries were curated to create thematic dialogues between works, sometimes placing vastly different periods and styles side by side to provoke new insights.
