The PC bus line follows the path of the Petite Ceinture, a historic circular railway that once encircled Paris. Originally built in the middle of the nineteenth century as a freight line to connect the city's major train stations, it later opened to passengers. By the early twentieth century, as the Metro expanded, the circular railway became less essential for local travel and eventually ceased passenger operations in nineteen thirty-four. The PC bus route was introduced as a replacement for this vanished transit link, preserving the concept of a orbital route around the edges of the city.
