Théâtre du Palais-Royal

The Théâtre du Palais-Royal you see today at the corner of the rue de Montpensier began its life as a modest puppet theater. Built in seventeen eighty-four, it was initially known as the Théâtre des Beaujolais, named for the young son of the Duke of Orléans who owned the palace complex. The space was specifically designed to entertain the children of the royal household before it eventually evolved into a professional stage for plays and operettas.
