Musée Pasteur

The Musee Pasteur occupies the actual apartment where the scientist Louis Pasteur lived during the final seven years of his life. After moving into this residence at the newly inaugurated Institut Pasteur in 1888, he remained here until his health failed in 1895. The space remained largely untouched for decades after the death of his wife, Marie, preserving the intimate, nineteenth-century domestic environment exactly as the couple left it. In 1935, his family and colleagues decided to transform these rooms into a memorial, ensuring that the heavy curtains, personal mementos, and period furniture would continue to reflect the daily life of a man whose work reshaped modern medicine.
