Hôtel Tubeuf

The Hotel Tubeuf stands as one of the last major structures in Paris to showcase the distinctive brick and stone architectural style that was rapidly falling out of fashion when construction began in sixteen thirty-five. Originally built for a president of the Chambre des Comptes, the mansion features elaborate stonework, including rusticated columns and decorative quoins, that served as a loud display of aristocratic status in the early seventeenth century. While this style is now considered a relic, its survival here reveals the specific tastes of the financiers who were quickly rising to replace the old nobility in the urban heart of the capital.
