Place Furstemberg

Place Furstemberg sits tucked away, marked by four paulownia trees that shade its cobblestones. It served as the courtyard for the stables of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, back when the monks owned this land. In eighteen fifty-seven, the artist Eugene Delacroix moved into the building facing the square to be near his work at the church. He planted those trees himself, and they still bloom with purple flowers each spring, just as they did when he painted in his studio.
