Pont du Carrousel

The Pont du Carrousel serves as a direct, historic axis between the Left Bank and the Louvre. While the bridge you see today is a reinforced concrete structure from the late nineteen thirties, it replaced an experimental iron and wood bridge that debuted in eighteen thirty-four. That original span was designed by engineer Antoine-Remy Polonceau, who used hollow, cast-iron arches that Parisians quickly nicknamed napkin rings.
