For decades after he passed away, his daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg kept the house exactly as he left it, down to the cigarette butts in the ashtrays and the items left in his refrigerator. The interior walls are draped in black felt, creating a dark, intimate, and cavernous environment that reflects the artist's personal world. The house holds approximately twenty-five thousand items, ranging from his Steinway piano to unexpected curiosities like surgical tools and framed spiders.
