Musée Maillol

The Musee Maillol occupies a quiet corner of the seventh arrondissement, housed within an eighteenth century mansion that once served as a convent. The building itself is notable for the Fontaine des Quatre Saisons, or the Fountain of the Four Seasons, which adorns its exterior with intricate stone carvings. This museum is the result of a decades-long project by Dina Vierny, who dedicated her life to preserving the legacy of the sculptor Aristide Maillol. Vierny met Maillol in nineteen thirty-four when she was just fifteen years old and he was seventy-three. She became his primary model, muse, and collaborator, appearing in many of his most famous bronze sculptures, including The Mountain and The River. After Maillol died in nineteen forty-four, Vierny spent years gathering his work and transforming this property into a tribute to his vision of serenity and classical form.
