A bright yellow sign hangs over the entrance to the Pragjyotika Assam Emporium. Inside, the shop serves as a dedicated outlet for the Assam government to sell hand-loomed silk and traditional crafts directly to the residents of Delhi. In the nineteen eighties, the state government established these emporiums across major Indian cities to ensure weavers in remote villages received fair prices for their work. The shelves hold rows of golden muga silk and carved bamboo objects brought straight from Guwahati.
