The Kalikambal Kamadeswarar Temple stands out with a towering, brightly painted gopuram adorned with intricate sculptures of deities. This site serves as a center for worship of the goddess Kalikambal and the god Kamadeswarar. Legend tells that Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Maratha ruler, traveled here in sixteen seventy-seven to offer prayers to the goddess. The original temple occupied a different location closer to the sea before the British East India Company relocated it to this spot in sixteen forty to build Fort Saint George.
