Char Bagh

park garden

The Char Bagh garden sits as a perfect square, divided into four quadrants by narrow, reflective water channels. This layout serves as an earthly representation of the Islamic paradise described in the Quran. Shah Jahan designed it to provide a symmetrical, elevated perspective of the tomb beyond. When the Yamuna river levels fluctuate, the water in these channels creates a distinct mirror effect. The garden holds deep silence, keeping the focus entirely on the white marble structure that dominates the horizon.
