Hasso-an

Hasso-an is a small, weathered tea ceremony house characterized by its asymmetrical, thatched roof and a unique window arrangement that allows light to hit the tatami mats from three distinct angles. It was originally built in the seventeenth century for a powerful warlord in Shiga Prefecture. In nineteen eighteen, the structure was dismantled, transported, and painstakingly reassembled in Sapporo. Legend says that the warlord commissioned its irregular design to hide from assassins, as the peculiar corners offered him unusual vantage points.
