A low stone wall encloses this park, separating a quiet patch of green from the dense streets of Sumida. This ground marks the former residence of Kira Yoshinaka, a high-ranking official of the Tokugawa shogunate. In the early eighteenth century, forty-seven leaderless samurai forced their way through his gate in a midnight raid to avenge their master. The skirmish ended here, and the land remained private property for centuries until the local ward transformed it into this public space in the nineteen thirties.
