Tennōji Temple

The main gate of Tennōji Temple is framed by two stone pillars, but the real marker is the bronze Buddha statue sitting exposed to the elements in the garden. This temple traces its origins to the thirteenth century, established by the Nichiren sect. In the late seventeen hundreds, the temple gained fame for a massive, tall pagoda that dominated the neighborhood skyline. That structure burned down in a fire in nineteen fifty-seven, leaving only the stone base and the statue behind.
