SCAI The Bathhouse

other

The Kashiwayu bathhouse occupies a structure distinguished by a high, tiled roof and a sweeping curved gable known as a karahafu. Built in nineteen ten, this building served the local neighborhood as a public bath for nine decades. When the bathhouse closed in two thousand, the artist Masami Shiraishi transformed the interior into a contemporary art gallery. The former changing room and bathing area now hold sculptures and installations, while the original architectural frame remains intact.
