The red wooden gates of Nezu Shrine form a dense tunnel that winds up the hillside. These gates, called torii, were donated by individuals and businesses seeking good fortune, creating a vibrant orange path that stands out against the dark, forested slope. The main buildings date to seventeen oh six, commissioned by the fifth Tokugawa shogun, Tsunayoshi. He chose this site for his heir, and the shrine survives as one of the few Edo period structures to escape the city's great fires and bombings.
