Kayaba Coffee occupies a sharp, triangular building of dark wood and glass that anchors the corner of the street. Built in nineteen sixteen, the structure survived the Great Kanto Earthquake and the air raids of nineteen forty-five that leveled much of the surrounding neighborhood. For decades, it served as a neighborhood hub run by the Kayaba family. When the last owner passed away in two thousand six, the doors stayed shut until local artists and preservationists reopened the interior in two thousand nine.
