Shwe Gu Gyi Temple

The Shwe Gu Gyi Temple stands out because of its high, arched windows and the bright, white stucco covering its brick base. King Alaungsithu built this temple in eleven thirty-one to serve as his personal place of worship. The king actually spent his final days here in twelve oh seven, reportedly smothered by his own son, Narathu, while he rested on a stone bed inside. You can still find that stone slab tucked within the cool, dim interior of the main chamber.
