The Rosarium in Vondelpark features seventy different types of roses planted within a sunken, circular garden. Architect Jan Springer designed this space in eighteen seventy-seven as a formal retreat within the broader park landscape. During the late nineteen-fifties, landscape architect Mien Ruys redesigned the beds to accommodate thousands of new roses. Every June, the garden hits its peak bloom, turning the entire circular enclosure into a dense, fragrant display that remains hidden from the main park paths until you reach the edge.
