The brick storefront of Ye Shouhe bears a dark, carved wooden signboard with gold characters, tucked along the busy streets of the Gusu District. This shop emerged in the late nineteenth century as a specialized merchant for medicinal teas and traditional herbal confections. While other apothecaries focused on raw roots and bark, the Ye family built their reputation by grinding ingredients into delicate, sweet powders and infusions that people actually enjoyed drinking. They still sell those same tea blends behind the counter today.
