Caizhizhai sits on the street corner with a bright red storefront, easily identified by the traditional, oversized wooden characters hanging above the entrance. While the street thrives with modern crowds, this shop maintains its legacy as a master of Suzhou-style candy and preserved fruits. It opened its doors in eighteen eighty-five, founded by a man named Cao who brought recipes from the north to blend with local tastes. The staff still uses copper pots and wooden paddles to handcraft their iconic pine nut cakes.
