Belgrave Square

Before this grand square appeared, the land was known as Five Fields, a notoriously dangerous stretch of marshy, undeveloped terrain. It was avoided by the gentry because it served as a common haunt for robbers and highwaymen who waited in the tall grass to ambush travelers. The area was so treacherous that a nearby crossing point over the Westbourne stream was ominously nicknamed Bloody Bridge.
