Thames House stands on Millbank as the headquarters for the United Kingdom's Security Service, widely known as MI5. While it now serves as a secure hub for domestic counter-intelligence, the building began its life in the early nineteen thirties as the corporate offices for Imperial Chemical Industries. The site was cleared for construction after a devastating flood from the Thames in nineteen twenty-eight swept through the run-down residential district that previously occupied this land.
