Statue of Winston Churchill, Palace of Westminster

The bronze statue standing on the green of Parliament Square is a deliberate landmark. During a project to remodel the square in the nineteen fifties, Winston Churchill pointed to this exact north-eastern corner and remarked that this is where his statue would go. Standing twelve feet tall, the work depicts the former Prime Minister in a naval greatcoat, leaning on a walking stick, a pose modeled after his appearance while inspecting the bomb-damaged ruins of the House of Commons in May nineteen forty-one.
