The Cabaret Mechanical Theatre began as a humble shop called Cabaret in the seaside town of Falmouth. In nineteen seventy-nine, founder Sue Jackson sold simple wooden toys, ceramics, and knitwear alongside the first few mechanical pieces created by local artists. These automata soon became the main attraction as customers grew fascinated by the movement and humor of the machines. The collection eventually outgrew its small coastal home, leading to its move into the atmospheric, cave-like vaults of the old Covent Garden market in nineteen eighty-four.
