Fortune Theatre

The Fortune Theatre holds a unique place in London architecture as the oldest remaining public building in the city constructed entirely of concrete. Its exterior features a striking, bush-hammered concrete finish that was highly experimental when the venue was completed in nineteen twenty-four. You can see a stone figurine of Terpsichore, the muse of dance, perched high above the entrance as a nod to the classical arts. The building was the very first theatre erected in London following the First World War, standing on a site that previously hosted the Albion Tavern, a long-time watering hole for generations of actors and writers.
