The Shaftesbury Theatre

The building before you opened in 1911 as the New Prince's Theatre. It was the final theatre to be constructed along Shaftesbury Avenue. The architect, Bertie Crewe, designed the interior with flamboyant Edwardian splendor, featuring rose and white marble alongside gold mosaic in the foyer. It was intended to be a home for popular melodramas, though it later hosted a vast range of productions, from opera to rock musicals.
