Sturt's Lock

Sturt's Lock, known formally as Lock number six on the Regent's Canal, sits at an eight-foot drop in the water level. The site takes its name from a local landowner of the nineteenth century rather than any nautical explorer. While many locks across the national network were built as single chambers, this one once featured a second chamber that functioned as a weir to manage water levels. Today, those remaining structures serve as a quiet, residential mooring site for canal boats, tucked away from the busy streets of Hackney.
