Victoria House stands as a grand, neo-classical island site between Bloomsbury Square and Southampton Row. Constructed between nineteen twenty-six and nineteen thirty-two, it was built to serve as the headquarters for the Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society, an organization that began in the nineteenth century as a humble burial society helping members manage funeral expenses. The building features a steel frame clad in Portland stone, designed by architect Charles William Long to project strength and stability for the insurance firm that occupied it for over sixty years.
