Stratton Street owes its name to the Battle of Stratton, a royalist victory during the English Civil War. The street was developed in sixteen ninety-three on land once owned by the Berkeley family. John Berkeley, the first Baron Berkeley of Stratton, received his title specifically to commemorate his command in that seventeenth-century conflict.
