Millwall FC Mural

landmark

The mural on Zampa Road stands as a vivid piece of local identity, featuring the club's iconic leaping lion crest. Painted by street artist Lionel Stanhope, it was part of a broader project to transform historic railway infrastructure across South East London through vintage typography and bold design. While Stanhope is known for his work on film sets for Disney and Hollywood productions, this specific wall was created in collaboration with Network Rail to serve as a landmark for supporters making their way to The Den. The lion itself, which has been the club's emblem since 1936, reflects a nickname born from a 1900 FA Cup victory against Aston Villa, when the press dubbed the team the Lions of the South.
