Spa Road Bridge

The Spa Road Bridge marks the exact location where the London and Greenwich Railway opened its first station in eighteen thirty-six. This was the first passenger railway terminus in London, and for months, Spa Road served as the only gateway for travelers heading toward the coast. The original structure was a simple timber platform that passengers reached by climbing an external wooden staircase. Its rapid popularity caused such significant overcrowding that the company closed the station just four years later to focus operations on the larger London Bridge terminal nearby.
