This park stands as a permanent memorial to King George the Fifth, established in the years following his death in nineteen thirty-six. It was born from a national initiative to combat the intense urbanization of the era, which left children and young people in crowded industrial areas with very few places to play. The local council secured a five hundred pound grant from the King George's Fields Foundation to transform this site into a dedicated space for outdoor recreation. Because of its designation as a memorial field, this ground is protected by a charitable trust, ensuring it remains a public open space for the community in perpetuity.
