Tobacco Dock stands as a relic of a time when the world's most valuable goods flowed into London. Completed in eighteen twelve, this vast warehouse was designed to secure massive quantities of tobacco, wine, and spirits behind high brick walls that discouraged river pirates and opportunistic thieves. At its peak, the Great Tobacco Warehouse could hold twenty-four thousand hogsheads of tobacco, while beneath it, a labyrinthine, subterranean city of vaults kept millions of gallons of wine at a constant, cool temperature.
